April 2025- Family Newsletter

Principal's Note

Lamar Families,

We are into the last part of our school year and have quite a few happenings in April and May. Please review the information below, the calendar for April, and other information in this newsletter.

  1. Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAPs) will start the week of April 14 and run through May 2. This state assessment for students in grades 3-8 helps our school provide the most prescriptive learning for your child. Grades 3-5 will take a paper based assessment and 6-8th grade will take the assessment digitally. Please plan appointments and other absences outside of these dates and ensure that students are at school on time. More information and an assessment schedule will be released soon. If you are able to Proctor for these assessments, please email Ms. Leimkuhler (leimkuhlers@wcde.org), click HERE, or call the office. We are still in need of volunteers.

  2. Washinton County Schools Summer Academy will be offered to rising Kindergarten through 8th grade students. Dates and times are June 2, 2025 thru June 27, 2025 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm (Monday-Thursdays only). The location for the entire district will be Jonesborough Elementary School. Please see the flier below and the link for registration for this program.

Again, thanks for your continued support and as always please feel free to contact the office at 753-1130 if you have questions.

Respectfully,

Mark Merriman, Principal

✏Aide the test administrator in passing out pencils and scrap paper.
📖Help ensure students are on the correct page.

💚If you are able to volunteer we would greatly appreciate your time and support. Please complete the Google Form at https://bit.ly/LamarProctors2025 and a member of our testing team will contact you for confirmation.

⭐️ATTENDANCE REMINDERS⭐️

  • TARDIES: School starts at 8:00am and students must be in their homeroom class by 8:00am. If you bring your child to school, please ensure they are dropped off with plenty of time to get to class. For every 5th tardy, students will serve an extended school day in the library to make up the time missed due to tardies.

  • PARENT NOTES: Each student has 5 parent days that can be used to excuse 5 absences for the entire school year. Parent days can be used with a parent note/email or verbally with a parent calling the school. Once 5 absences have been excused with a parent note/call, all absences will require medical documentation to be excused.

  • UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: If a student accrues 5 unexcused absences, they are truant. At this time, you will receive a letter requesting an attendance meeting where parents/guardians will sign an attendance contract. If a student continues to accrue unexcused absences, then there will be a Truancy Board hearing with the next step being truancy court.

  • PARENT/MEDICAL EXCUSES: All excuse documentation (parental or medical) must be received within 5 days of the student returning to school. After 5 days, absences cannot be changed from unexcused to excused. Excuses can be emailed to lamarattendance@wcde.org or faxed to 423-753-1134.
