Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Sulphur Spring Families,

We had yet another wonderful week at the Springs!

On Monday, we were able to celebrate a very special student who continues to inspire us all. We are so proud of you, Edgar!

Today, we held our Boundless STEAM Surprise Spectacular. Students enjoyed hands-on fall-themed STEAM activities during each rotation, and it was such a joy to see their excitement and creativity in action.

Last night, we hosted our first K-8 dance of the year, and it was a huge success. A big thank you to all the volunteers and our Booster Club for working so hard to make this event possible.

Many grade levels also went on field trips this week, giving students the chance to see how what they are learning in the classroom connects to the world around them.

With all these fun and meaningful experiences happening here, it is no surprise that Sulphur Springs currently has the second highest attendance in the district. Let’s keep up the momentum and encourage our students to be here every single day. I know we can reach number one!

I hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend. I appreciate your continued support.

Teacher Spotlight: Rebecca Schweiker

Grade/Subject: 1st Grade

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Sulphur Springs?

I absolutely love seeing the students eyes light up when they read a word that they couldn’t before or learn something new. Nothing is better than hearing a student share an achievement with me!

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I wanted to be a teacher because my mom was a teacher. I would watch her help her students succeed and the sense of pride she had in helping them graduate from college inspired me to want to be like that. Nothing is better than seeing my past students writings in the hallway or hearing how they are doing in their new grade levels.

What’s a fun fact or hobby you enjoy?

My two favorite hobbies are horseback riding and painting

Updates:

Edgar's Miracle Moment

SSES students were so excited to celebrate with Edgar and his family. The student leadership team helped to plan a celebration by asking students to line the hallways and create encouraging signs as Edgar and his friends made their way through the school.

Edgar was able to ring the bell at St. Jude's at the Niswonger Children's Hospital. Edgar has now rung the bell for all of Sulphur Springs' students to hear.

We were all so excited to celebrate this milestone with Edgar and his family!

Our Grades Pre-K through 3 students loved reading Stellaluna, sparking great conversations about friendship and the differences between bats and birds. They enjoyed making bat puppets and took part in an exciting STEAM project, creating flying bats propelled by air pressure!

Meanwhile, middle school students in Mrs. Yarber’s theatre class and Mrs. Pate’s set design class had a wonderful field trip to the Kingsport Theatre Guild to see Shrek. Two of our students, Sophia Johnson and Kensley Taylor, were part of the cast, making the experience even more special.
