Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Families,

This week was a calm and productive one at Sulphur Springs, with students and teachers focused on learning and making steady progress in the classroom. I am proud of the hard work I see from our students and staff each day.

Our 7th and 8th grade students also enjoyed participating in a virtual storytelling event with other 7th and 8th graders across the district. It was a great opportunity to connect beyond our school and experience learning in a different way.

Several families also took advantage of our Family Connection Day this week, and we appreciate those who were able to attend. If you were not able to join us, our next Family Connection Day will be held on January 27, and we would love to see you stop by! Please email me at mcinturffk@wcde.org for a time during the day or after school that works for you.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. We are grateful to be part of such a wonderful school community.

Educator of the Week

Name: Sarah Asbury

Grade/Subject: 4th Grade Science and Social Studies

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Sulphur Springs?: I love teaching at Sulphur Springs because of the school culture among the students and staff.  We care about and support each other in the good times and the bad, we share wins and losses, and we all share a genuine love for every student here.

What inspired you to become a teacher?: I have always wanted to become a teacher to have a positive impact on students' lives, not just the year that I have them in my classroom.  I want them to know they always have someone in their corner who cares about them.

What’s a fun fact or hobby you enjoy?: I enjoy being outdoors with friends and family and baking for others.

Introducing: Family Connection Days!

Here at SS, we have been brainstorming new ways to help families stay connected. One of the best ways to do this is by setting up the WCS app. Within this one app, families can receive real-time announcements from the school and from individual teachers through their classroom “rooms.”

If you need help getting started or navigating the app, we are happy to help. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete the form sent home along with the January calendar and return it in your child’s report card envelop OR simply send Mrs. McInturff an email at mcinturffk@wcde.org with the time and date you would prefer to meet.

We can also assist families with navigating PowerSchool or other websites their students use during this time, including setting up alerts that notify you when your child’s grade changes due to a new assignment.

Upcoming Date: January 27

Available Times: Morning, Midday, or 3 pm-6 pm

PreK-3rd Highlights

4th-8th Grade Highlights

Walk the Hallways!

So much learning going on in the classrooms! Walking the hallways and seeing what the students are doing in their classrooms is impressive. Creating visual representations and providing information about their learning in multiple ways. Evidence of creative thinking and writing as they work independently and in teams.

Enjoy the elementary hallway tour!

Hallway Highlights Continue!

Spotlighting authentic evidence of learning in our school hallways — student work from upper elementary and middle school that demonstrates creative and critical thinking across subjects. These displays are not just decorations: they are classroom products show how learners apply concepts, communicate understanding, and engage in higher‑order thinking.

Students Take On Challenges in CTE

Students in the CTE classroom are taking on challenges that require use of the information they are learning in their classrooms. Whether they are asked to build a shelter for survival that requires understanding adapations of species or following guidelines to build gear componets that applies their understanding of force and motion, the students seem to willing to take on these tasks working and helping each other through the process! Problem soving through challenges!

Learning Goals & Big Feelings (PreK–3)

During library class, grades PreK–3 classes explored New Year goals and managing big emotions with Ms. Hale. We read the books Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein and Bad Kitty Does NOT Like Snow by Nick Bruel.

Students learned why we set goals and chose academic aims (reading, writing, spelling) and social goals (being kinder, more supportive).

Students practiced breathing techniques and safe ways to handle frustration which includes using words, asking an adult, taking a calm break, or doing physical activities instead of being destructive.

We also reviewed proper Chromebook care: gentle handling, no food/drinks nearby, and asking for help with issues.

At home: ask about one goal your child set, practice a breathing exercise together, and reinforce Chromebook care. Thanks for supporting their growth!
