Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Families,

This week brought several moments that made me very proud to be part of the SSES community. I was honored to attend the Martin Luther King Jr. Art Show and see the beautiful artwork created by our students. Their creativity and hard work were wonderful to see.

We also wrapped up our basketball season this week, and I am very proud of all of our students who participated in winter sports. Thank you to our coaches and families for supporting them throughout the season.

On Monday, we will celebrate our 100th day of school. I cannot believe we are already reaching this milestone. Time truly flies when you are having fun and learning together.

Have a great weekend, and stay safe out there!

Krissi McInturff
Principal

Below are our most recent Gamecock Golden Star Award recipients. Thank you for being respectful, confident, encouraging, and kind.

Introducing: Family Connection Days!

Here at SS, we have been brainstorming new ways to help families stay connected. One of the best ways to do this is by setting up the WCS app. Within this one app, families can receive real-time announcements from the school and from individual teachers through their classroom “rooms.”

If you need help getting started or navigating the app, we are happy to help. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, simply send Mrs. McInturff an email at mcinturffk@wcde.org with the time and date you would prefer to meet.

We can also assist families with navigating PowerSchool or other websites their students use during this time, including setting up alerts that notify you when your child’s grade changes due to a new assignment.

Upcoming Date: January 27

Available Times: Morning, Midday, or 3 pm-6 pm

Students Take On Challenges in CTE

The Robotics students were given an example of an real life emergency that utilized a robotic unit. They were challenged to build and code a rescue unit the would accomplish the same task. Building for the future in a robotic world.

Article provided for the students is from NASA and was shared in the Project Lead the Way Automation and Robotics course:
Search and Rescue Robots

One of the first documented uses of robots at a search and rescue site was shortly after September 11, 2001, in the aftermath of the World Trade Center Disaster. To access locations where people or dogs could not go, search and rescue teams used remote-controlled robots.

Robot Drone League Jr. Update

Robot Drone League Jr. is in full swing! Our student coaches have been working with the new 3rd grade team to introduce them to teleop operation of the drones. They're building confidence, teamwork, and hands‑on STEM skills.

The competition originally scheduled for this Saturday has been rescheduled to February 21, giving our team extra time to practice STEM challenges, refine autonomous programming, and sharpen teleop maneuvers. We’re excited to see their progress and cheer them on!
