Dear Sulphur Springs Families,
Welcome back, and happy new year! I hope everyone had a restful and joyful break and was able to spend special time with family and friends. We are so excited to welcome our students back and begin the second semester together.
The start of a new semester always brings fresh energy and new opportunities. Our teachers and staff have been busy planning engaging lessons, setting goals with students, and preparing to help every child continue to grow academically and socially. We are proud of all that our students accomplished during the first semester, and we look forward to building on that success in the months ahead.
This semester, we will continue focusing on strong instruction, positive behavior, and meaningful connections with families. We believe that when schools and families work together, students thrive, and we are grateful for your continued support and partnership.
As always, please stay connected by checking folders, reading newsletters, getting connected to the WCS app, and following us on Facebook for updates and celebrations from around our school. If you ever have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to help and to support your child in every way we can.
Thank you for being such an important part of the Sulphur Springs community. We are looking forward to a wonderful second semester full of learning, growth, and great memories. Krissi McInturff Principal

Name: Bethany Hagy Grade/Subject: First Grade
What do you enjoy most about teaching at Sulphur Springs?: There are so many things I love about teaching at Sulphur Springs. My favorite part is who I get to share my love of teaching with every day. The collaboration, encouragement, and shared love for our students make our school a wonderful place to be. I also love who we get to teach. Being greeted by hugs and smiles each morning and throughout the day is one of the best things in the world. Our students are truly the best!
What inspired you to become a teacher?: Both of my parents are educators, and they are one of my main inspirations for wanting to become a teacher because I saw the impact they made and felt the love they had for their jobs growing up, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do, too. My second grade teacher, Mrs. Hamilton, also inspired me to be a teacher through her fun, creative and hands-on learning. I wanted to instill a love for learning for my students just as I experienced growing up. I love watching my students light up when they learn new things and reach their goals!
What’s a fun fact or hobby you enjoy?: I love to travel to new places! |
Introducing: Family Connection Days! |
Here at SS, we have been brainstorming new ways to help families stay connected. One of the best ways to do this is by setting up the WCS app. Within this one app, families can receive real-time announcements from the school and from individual teachers through their classroom “rooms.”
If you need help getting started or navigating the app, we are happy to help. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete the form sent home along with the January calendar and return it in your child’s report card envelop OR simply send Mrs. McInturff an email at mcinturffk@wcde.org with the time and date you would prefer to meet.
We can also assist families with navigating PowerSchool or other websites their students use during this time, including setting up alerts that notify you when your child’s grade changes due to a new assignment.
Dates available: January 13 and January 27 Available Times: Morning, Midday, or 3 pm-6 pm | |

Art, Literacy, and Snowflakes |
After a read-aloud of "Little Snowflake," our kindergarten students used their imaginations to create beautiful snowflake art that connected literacy and visual arts. What a wonderful way to meet curriculum goals while keeping young learners engaged and encouraged to be creative! |
|
Our 7th graders had the opportunity to see how body systems work together within an organism. They discovered it firsthand during a frog dissection lab — moving from cells to tissues to organs to full organ systems. Hands-on labs foster engagement, critical thinking, and retention—key outcomes for science education. Making connections sticks! |

We are happy to welcome students back after winter break! As the new term begins, we’re hitting the ground running with auditions for the Disney Kids version of The Lion King musical. We’re so excited to see our middle school students showcase their talents acting, singing, dancing and designing our set.
We would also like to introduce Maria Hale. She is getting her Master's degree at ETSU and will be doing her student teaching with Mrs. Yarber this semester. She has a four year old daughter and a fifteen year old son. She also has four cats, two frogs, a fish, and a hamster. Her favorite book is, Have You Seen My Cat? by Eric Carle. |
