Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Sulphur Spring Families,

It has been a fantastic first nine weeks at SSES! Our school was notified of our TVAAS Level 5 status, and we were honored as a Resilient School of Distinction by ETSU and community partners. Additionally, we have a Sulphur Springs cross-country athlete headed to Clarksville this weekend to compete at the state tournament! Good luck, Callan!

Our community also had a blast at Math Night on Monday. Students enjoyed inflatables and pizza while learning and having fun with math. Thank you to everyone who volunteered for this great event.

In just nine weeks, our Pre-K and kindergarten students already look and act like seasoned SSES members. They know their routines and are showing true Gamecock pride. Our older elementary students are serving as excellent role models who are respectful, confident, encouraging, and kind.

Our middle schoolers have had an exciting start as well. From their first pep rally to a trip to the Barter Theatre, they have shown school spirit and leadership. The middle school leadership team represented us proudly at the school board meeting, while the Media Arts class has taken over Friday announcements and even created their own movie. And after only one quarter, our band already sounds amazing.

Congratulations to Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Asbury, and Mrs. Chausse for having the best attendance percentage for your grade span. Popsicles and a duty-free recess are in your future!

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing fall break. I look forward to all that is in store for Quarter 2!

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Serena Yarber

Serena Yarber

  1. Name: Serena Yarber

  2. Grade/Subject: PreK-8 Library

  3. What do you enjoy most about teaching at Sulphur Springs?: I love our students, faculty, and staff. I am so grateful to be able to contribute to this community where I grew up. My mom's side of the family has been in this area for generations and is actually buried in the surrounding cemetery, so it has always felt like I am where I am supposed to be.

  4. What inspired you to become a teacher? I have always loved reading and being a school librarian has always been a dream job of mine. I also followed in my mother’s footsteps.

  5. What’s a fun fact or hobby you enjoy? I used to be a carriage driver in historic Jonesborough. I’ve also been an extra in several films and TV shows.

What Would You Do to Pie Your Teacher?

Mr. Campbell's math students are continually challenged to meet goals in their math class. Students that met the goals were allowed to use this fun and motivating reward for meeting those academic challenges.

Promoting a positive classroom environment and encouraging hard work throughout the year pays off with a memorable experience!

Celebrating SSES Success

To celebrate our Level 5 School achievement, all students and faculty raised their "5" in the air during school-wide event. We also celebrated the recent Resilient School award.

Each student received a fidget spinner or a SSES Gamecock arm band as a reminder that we take our achievements seriously and want to continue to grow our desire to learn.

CTE Wrenches

Another Successful Use of Hand Tools!

The CTE students correctly identified multiple types of wrenches and were able to added another fasteners to their boards.

Use proper PPE and determining the size of wrenches required to complete the task, the students added and removed bolts from their project boards. Teamwork and accuracy were definite requirements to be successful for the job.

Great work and use of hand tools in the Construction course using Snap On tools!

MindCave

MindCave: Empowering Students to Solve Real-World Problems

Our Middle School students recently embarked on an exciting journey in the MindCave, where curiosity and creativity came together! They began by researching important problems facing our world today. Using the Tennessee Electronic Library, each student found three reliable sources to deepen their understanding of their chosen guiding questions.

With their research as a foundation, students then put on their inventor hats and designed innovative solutions to these challenges. The creativity didn’t stop there—some students even produced commercials to showcase and promote their inventions, sharing their ideas with the whole class.

Meanwhile, our Elementary School students continued their exploration of community helpers. Working in groups, they created colorful and informative posters highlighting the important roles these helpers play in our neighborhoods. They proudly presented their posters to their classmates, reinforcing the value of teamwork and community awareness.

Together, our students are empowered to think critically, collaborate, and take action—preparing them to be thoughtful problem solvers for the future!
