Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Sulphur Spring Families,

Happy Friday!

This week, we had the wonderful opportunity to showcase the amazing things happening at Sulphur Springs to the State Board of Education. State leaders heard from our Student Leadership Team, who shared this year’s goal of helping all students build confidence within an empowering, supportive, and non-judgmental environment.

Ms. Blaser’s Media Arts class presented their Friday announcements and explained how the course helps them grow more comfortable with public speaking. Both Media Arts and Coach Fox’s Sports Media class continue to create reels and other content for our Facebook page as well. Be sure to check it out: @SulphurSpringsSchoolandCommunityNews.

Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Moore also shared how Sulphur Springs models resilience every day and what that looks like across our school community. During their visit, board members and staff toured classrooms and spoke with teachers about how the state can best support their work.

At the State Board’s Quarterly Meeting at Northeast State, the board voted on the 2024–25 Reward Schools, and Sulphur Springs, Grandview, and University School all made the list! Congratulations to all three schools in our district!

We are also continuing to highlight students who show respect, confidence, encouragement, and kindness. Below is a photo of our recently recognized students.

Just to remind you, we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday next week. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. Our next newsletter will be sent to your inboxes on Friday, December 5.

Have a great weekend!

Krissi McInturff

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Sulphur Springs?: I love Sulphur Springs School because it is a part of my family. My grandmother and her siblings, mother and her siblings, me and my siblings and two of my kids and granddaughter are all Gamecock alumni or current students.

What inspired you to become a teacher?: It gives me great joy to see children learn and grow academically and socially. It’s so rewarding to see them get excited to learn.

What’s a fun fact or hobby you enjoy?: As a student at Sulphur Springs, I was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen.

Congratulations to the winners of the Elks Hoop Shoot free throw competition.  The winners will travel to Gatlinburg to compete at the district level. Good luck!

Disguised Turkeys

Our kindergarten students have disguised their turkeys so they will not be part of the Thanksgiving meal. So creative and imainative along with giving a purpose for their writing.

Thank you to the Appalachian RC&D for the Pop-Up Farmers Market to share with our school community!

Excited to share that the SSES Student Leadership Team, Media Team, and Mrs. Knight’s Science students recently shared our Sulphur Springs story to the Tennessee Board of Education members, state legislators, WCDE Director of Schools Mr. Boyd, and others.

This is a powerful opportunity for students to communicate their work and for leaders to see firsthand the impact of dedicated staff and innovative programs. Proud of our students’ leadership and the strong partnerships creating these pathways.

Health Science Career Focus

Our middle school CTE health‑science students have begun practical, career‑focused learning: surveying healthcare settings and mastering the tools used to check vital signs. They’re investigating how these measurements inform clinical decisions and patient outcomes through authentic, task‑based experiences.

This early exposure builds technical skills and career pathways — from clinical roles to diagnostic labs and community health. Support hands‑on learning for future careers!

Special thanks to Mrs. Dunn for working with our students as they learn to use the tools for health science and sharing her high school experience in health careers!

Finch Robot Wheels

Problem solving at it's best! When the robot wheels are not performing as expected, a students developed a method for cleaning the dust and dirt away. Now, the Finch will run as expected.

Middle School Theatre:
Our theatre students sharpened their improv skills with a series of quick-thinking games designed to help them recover if they ever “go dry” during a performance. Practicing how to think on their feet not only builds confidence on stage but also strengthens teamwork and creative problem-solving. The session was entertaining, informative, and — as always — absolutely hilarious.

Advanced Library (Middle School):
Advanced library students selected favorite books to promote and created short filmed book talks. These videos will be shared with younger grades to spark interest in reading and help students discover great new titles. Great work by our young ambassadors for literacy!
