Message From Dr. Little

STEM DESIGNATION

At Sulphur Springs Elementary School, we believe that education is about developing future leaders, empowering students to take ownership of their learning, and fostering a mindset of resilience and problem-solving.

We are committed to creating a school culture where every child is encouraged to lead in their own way, whether in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, or in the community. Through collaborative projects, leadership opportunities, and critical thinking challenges, we aim to equip our students with the confidence and skills needed to navigate the complexities of the world.

As partners in this journey, your support is invaluable. Encouraging leadership at home, fostering open discussions about problem-solving, and empowering children to take initiative will reinforce the values we instill at school. Together, we can nurture a generation of independent thinkers and compassionate leaders.

Thank you for your continued support in making SSES a place where students thrive. Sulphur Springs STEAM Leaders are Empowered to Solve Problems!

February 25th (8th Grade Night) 6:00pm-7:00pm- This event will be split into two equal sessions. Students and parents from Boones Creek, Fall Branch and Sulphur Springs are invited to attend the 6:00pm-7:00pm session.  Students and parents from Gray and Ridgeview are invited to attend the 7:00pm-8:00pm session.  The event will take place in our Little Theater.  We will have presentations on Overview of High School, AMP, and ROTC.  Following the presentations, students and parents will be invited to go to the cafeteria where many CTE programs, athletic programs and clubs will be set up.  If students and/or parents are unable to attend this event, all information will be available on the DBHS website.

Scheduling Information - Students and parents will be asked to sign up for an appointment to come to the high school to work with a counselor on 9th grade scheduling.  We are scheduling these appointments through a program called Calendly.  We will post a link with instructions on our website for students/parents to sign up for an appointment.  This link will go live on February 26th.

Things to remember...

1. All academic class placement is based on multiple test scores from the students current and previous school years.

2. It does not matter if the student is first or last to sign up for classes.  Every 9th grade student has the same chance at getting into their requested classes.

3. All 8th to 9th grade transition information will be located in the students red DBHS folder..

Our 5th grade students are doing a fundraiser for a field trip at the end of the year. Ordering information for the shirts will be coming home with all students next week.

CTE Culinary Experience

Our CTE Culinary Class students recently undertook an impressive project at Sulphur Springs! They successfully planned and executed the preparation of treats for faculty and staff on Valentine's Day, demonstrating their ability to work as a team and develop practical skills.

From menu planning with limited baking tools to creating an appealing logo and packaging, these students showcased their creativity and problem-solving abilities. Their experience included measuring, doubling recipes, and efficiently coordinating the delivery process.

This project not only highlighted their culinary skills but also emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in a real-world setting.

Exciting Times in Theater!

Our talented middle school theater and theater design students have been hard at work rehearsing and crafting scenes, costumes, and props for their upcoming performance of The Jungle Book, scheduled for March 12th! While the spotlight shines on the actors, it's important to recognize the behind-the-scenes heroes who contribute to this production, including stage managers, set designers, lighting technicians, and costume designers. Each student is putting in tremendous effort to memorize lines, conquer stage fright, and bring this beloved story to life. The anticipation is building, and our students can't wait to showcase their hard work to the entire school! Don't miss it!

Reader's Theater Performance

In Reader's Theater, the students unleashed their imaginative abilities while practicing their reading skills. They performed the play, creating unique props and backdrops that bring the story to life. This engaging activity promotes creativity, enhances reading comprehension, and encourages teamwork among their classmates.

Students actively participated to perform a version of the nursey rhyme as the read and sing about London Bridge. They were able build confidence and experience the joy and purpose that comes from reading. What a dynamic way to make literature come alive!

Exciting Sounds from the Ukulele

In 5th grade, students embark on their musical journey with the ukulele. Their initial encounters with this delightful instrument are filled with joy and discovery. First, they learn how to hold the ukulele correctly, ensuring a comfortable grip that sets the stage for success. Once they master the hold, the next adventure awaits: developing the right strumming technique to create beautiful, resonant sounds. This journey promises to be both fun and rewarding as they explore the world of music!

Engaging students in STEM through the VEX IQ Robot Challenge! Participants designed and controlled robots to strategically position color blocks on the opponent's side. This experience taught them the importance of balancing their robots to optimize performance while engaging in both offensive and defensive strategies.
