Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Families,

We had another great week at Sulphur Springs! One of the biggest highlights was our Middle School Career Fair. Our students worked hard to plan, collaborate, and schedule this fantastic event. We are very thankful to everyone who took time out of their busy day to share their profession and experiences with our students.

Next week is Read Across America Week! We will be celebrating the love of reading all week long, and our PreK–4 students will have the opportunity to dress up on several days to join in the fun.

On Tuesday, March 3, we will host our “Roar Into Reading” Literacy Night from 6:00–8:00 PM. Pizza will be served, bouncy houses will be enjoyed, and hole-in-ones in putt-putt will be celebrated! Each grade span will host safari-themed stations that are both fun and educational. Students who complete all stations will receive coupons redeemable at school, such as hat passes, extra recess, or lunch with a teacher. In addition, our Middle School Theatre class will present two showings of The Lion King at 6:10 PM and 7:10 PM. Tickets will be available as families enter.

On Thursday, we will be registering next year’s Preschool and Kindergarten students. Please call the office for more information.

Have a great weekend!

Krissi McInturff

What do you enjoy most about working at Sulphur Springs?: There are two things I love the most about teaching at SS…the students and faculty/staff.  I have some very dear, close friends who I teach along side and I’m thankful for their love for students and their student centered approach to teaching.  Our students are the best!

What inspired you to be a teacher? I believe teaching is my calling and I feel blessed to have a job I love and enjoy.  Everyday my hope is that I make a difference in the lives of my students.

What’s a fun fact or hobby you enjoy?: One interesting fact about me…in my college days I worked at Pizza Plus and I won a company wide contest as the fastest pizza maker!

My hobbies include watching baseball and softball and spending time with Jon and our boys.

Introducing: Family Connection Days!

Here at SS, we have been brainstorming new ways to help families stay connected. One of the best ways to do this is by setting up the WCS app. Within this one app, families can receive real-time announcements from the school and from individual teachers through their classroom “rooms.”

If you need help getting started or navigating the app, we are happy to help. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, simply send Mrs. McInturff an email at mcinturffk@wcde.org with the time and date you would prefer to meet.

We can also assist families with navigating PowerSchool or other websites their students use during this time, including setting up alerts that notify you when your child’s grade changes due to a new assignment.

PreK-3rd Highlights

Folk Tales in 2nd Grade

Our amazing second graders dove into a captivating legend about how the sky moved away! As they read, they discovered the main idea: a powerful lesson about the dangers of greed. Through this fictional folk tale, they learned an important message for everyone.

Our young scholars also expanded their vocabulary with exciting words like "scrumptious" and "concealed," mastering how to use them correctly. They took turns reading with enthusiasm and some even volunteered to read to the whole class, adding expressive flair to the story.

We're thrilled to celebrate the impressive skills of our second graders as they showcased their reading talents!

Bus Driver Appreciation

We love our bus drivers! Hand written notes and a little treat to show our much we appreciate them!

4th-8th Grade Highlights

Middle School Career Fair

Created by students for students, this event offered an opportunity to engage with a many different types of professionals from various careers. Students rotate through different stations in the gym, learning about local career options.

This exposure helps middle school students plan for their educational journey in high school and beyond.

We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our students, who recognize the importance of understanding local career opportunities. We are also grateful to our community members for taking the time to inform and inspire the students at Sulphur Springs.

Celebrating Engineering Week

The Power in Prosthetics: 7th Graders Innovate During Engineering Week

During Engineering Week, our talented 7th-grade students were tasked with a challenge to design and build a functional prosthetic hand using limited materials and minimal instructions. This hands-on project not only tested their creativity but also allowed them to connect their engineering skills with their science studies on organ systems.

The students were tasked with creating a prosthetic hand featuring moveable parts capable of picking up three different items. With only a basic plan and few resources, they needed to draw and label their prototypes, pushing the boundaries of innovation and ingenuity.

Bridging Science and Engineering:

Our engineers demonstrated remarkable creativity and functionality in their designs, showcasing the power and potential of their ideas. Their efforts during Engineering Week exemplify the spirit of innovation and the exciting future ahead for these aspiring engineers.
