Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff |
Dear Families,
Work hard, play hard has taken on a whole new meaning this week at Sulphur Springs! Much of the week was spent completing benchmark testing for students in grades 3–8. These assessments serve as valuable formative tools that help us understand where students are in mastering grade-level skills. Students have been setting goals for this final benchmark, and when we return, teachers will be meeting individually with students to reflect on their goals and discuss their progress. I have been excited to hear from many students who have shown growth from the last benchmark to this one. Thank you for your continued commitment to supporting your child’s academic success!
The end of the week gave us an opportunity to celebrate students who consistently demonstrate our school values of being respectful, confident, encouraging, and kind. Our Gamecock Golden Star Award winners for this nine weeks enjoyed pizza with Ms. Gracie yesterday, and today we held our EPIC Behavior Award celebration. Additionally, all students were able to watch the final performances of The Lion King. I am incredibly proud of our theatre students for their hard work and talent!
Looking ahead, I invite you to attend a stakeholder meeting with Mr. Boyd on Monday, March 30 at 5:30 PM here at Sulphur Springs. Your input will help shape the next five-year strategic plan for the Washington County Board of Education and Washington County Schools.
I hope the coming week allows you and your family time to relax, recharge, and spend meaningful time together. We look forward to seeing everyone back on March 23! Krissi McInturff Principal |
This Week’s Homerooms Added to the Slime Bucket! PreK–2: Mrs. Sifford’s Homeroom – 97.8% attendance 3–5: TIE! Mrs. Hensley & Mrs. Adams – 100% attendance
6–8: Ms. Hamilton – 98.5% attendance Remember, the more times your homeroom has the top attendance percentage, the more chances your class has to be the winning class on April 10 and get to slime the principals! Keep up the great work! |

Expedition USA: 6th Grade’s Epic Ozobot Adventure! |
Get ready to pack your virtual bags! Our 6th graders just wrapped up a cross-country journey without ever leaving the classroom. Combining science, tech, and creativity, our students turned into world-class explorers and engineers for their latest Biome Tour project!
The mission was to design a custom tour across the United States that stops at six distinct biomes. Students had to research the unique plants and animals that call these places home. Using the Engineering Design Process, students mapped out their routes, labeling each location. Students used computer science skills to code Ozobot Evos to navigate the custom maps.
By blending science, social studies, ELA media skills, and computer science subjects together, our students aren't just memorizing facts—they are solving problems and thinking like real-world scientists and programmers. It’s hands-on learning at its most exciting! Great job, 6th grade, for showing us that with a little code and a lot of curiosity, the whole world is within reach! |

Space Patterns: 5th Grade’s Finch Robot Galaxy! |
Our 5th graders just took a giant leap using Finch Robots to bring the solar system down to Earth. Students became master engineers to build their own moving models of the Sun, Earth, and Luna. Using the Finch Robots, students programmed precise movements to demonstrate rotation (spinning on an axis) and revolution (traveling around another body).
The classroom transformed into a mini-galaxy as "Earth" robots orbited "Sun" flashlights, while tiny "Moon" models circled the Earth in a perfectly timed cosmic dance. Students had to replicated cosmic events using Styrofoam moons, flashlights, and various Earth models, the 5th graders successfully demonstrated: Solar & Lunar Eclipses: Aligning their robots perfectly to cast shadows. Moon Phases: Showing how light hits the moon as it travels its path.
By using computational thinking to control the Finch Robots, students turned abstract concepts into a hands-on reality. It’s one thing to read about an orbit—it’s another thing entirely to code one! |
