Soil Testing in CTE Classes

CTE students explored the exciting intersection of technology and agriculture. They utilized a micro:bit device to measure soil moisture levels and track the water status of various plants.

To analyze soil nutrients, students extracted vital components by dissolving them in water and special tablets. They use nutrient detecting tablets to assess the levels of essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—key elements needed for plant growth and health.

After mastering these soil testing techniques, students created flyers to promote their services for checking the health of plants in their teachers' classrooms. They conducted tests and will share the results along with recommendations for plant health.

The primary goal is to provide students with hands-on experience in agricultural techniques while showcasing the valuable role that technology plays in modern farming practices.

Developing Timelines

Check out the hallway projects from our 1st-grade students! They have collaborated with their families to create timelines of their lives, enhancing their understanding of chronological order. Students created a timeline of their lives with family, showcasing their growth and milestones.

This engaging activity fosters creativity and visual representation, allowing students to meaningfully connect with their personal histories.

Magnetic Tasks

The third grade students were asked to complete seven magnetic tasks that were arranged for experimentation and discovery. Students learned that magnets repelled and attracted each other depending on their poles. They discovered the magical powers of moving magnetic objects through paper, thin cardboard, and even through water.

Objects were identified as either magnetic or nonmagnetic. Students learned that some magnets are more powerful and could lift chains of objects.

The best student discovery was how to lift the row of staples out of a tank of water while trying to maintain the water inside. The row of staples had to be poured back into the container with magnetic movement.

Problem solving using critical thinking and creative skills!

Reading & Robots

The 7th & 8th grade students reading children's books as they prepare to animate the storyline or character actions with their own robot designs. The middle school students will be sharing their designs and stories with students in kindergarten.

Using creative skills and problem solving to design the robots to perform the actions is the challenge they are facing. Brainstorming ideas and using the design thinking process will guide them through the task.
