Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Families,

We are excited to share that beginning this Tuesday, SSES will start construction on a new, more secure entrance to our school. This is an important step in continuing to prioritize the safety of our students and staff. During this time, there will be a few temporary adjustments to our daily procedures, and we greatly appreciate your flexibility and support.

Morning arrival will remain the same. Buses will continue to drop students off at the gym entrance, and car rider drop-off will take place in the usual location.

During the school day, the main entrance will be closed. For any daytime needs, including late student drop-offs, early check-outs, or visitor sign-ins, please use the back awning entrance. Our School Resource Officer (see his bio below), along with a member of our instructional or office staff, will be there to assist you.

To help ensure a smooth and efficient process, we encourage families to use the Bayless entrance whenever possible.

We are grateful for the continued support from our district and school board, whose dedication has made this project possible. We look forward to the added security and improvements this new entrance will bring to our school community.

Grades PreK-4th  Highlights

1st Grade The Timeline of Me

Our first graders created personal life timelines. This hands-on project transforms dates into a meaningful story, helping students understand how they grow and change over time.

The project is a wonderful opportunity for families to bond while reflecting on memories together. Parents can help children identify significant milestones in their lives.Sharing these timelines in class helps students and teachers get to know one another on a deeper level.Students practice sequencing as they organize events from birth to the present.

Grades 5th-8th Highlights

Nature & Science for 6th Graders

The 6th grade students took their science outside as they visited Henderson Wetlands. Students completed water testing after practicing the skills in Mrs. Knight's classroom. They investigated the elements of this local ecosystem that tie to their 6th-grade expectations.

Students heard more about the importance of the local environment and water systems from Kevin Byrd from the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts. The project is in connection with the Cumberland River Compact. Mrs. Knight has been working on this project throughout the year, and her students are fortunate to benefit from her dedication.

Library News

Middle school Computer Science students have been exploring the importance of Digital Citizenship. As part of their learning, they focused on how to stay safe while gaming online, including protecting personal information and interacting responsibly with others. To share their knowledge, students created informative posters highlighting key safety tips, which are now being displayed to help educate and support the entire school community.
