Student Voice

Members of our Student Leadership team will be doing their first presentation of the year on Monday, September 16th. The Tennessee STEM Innovation Network will be on campus with teachers from across the region. The Leadership Team will be presenting their identified problem for this school year. Things to discuss will be their problem, engineering design process, student motivation, and their survey results. We look forward to sharing photographs of their success.

6th Coding the Bolt

Coding the Sphero Bolt

Watch your step when 6th grade students are coding the Sphero Bolt robot. Students learned quickly how to operate the spherical robot as they maneuvered around the classroom. Experiences with robots increases confidence and enhances understanding of coding practices. Purposeful engagement to encourage problem solving and critical thinking skills!

Middle School Innovation in Action!

This week, our talented middle school students showcased their creativity and teamwork by constructing an impressive obstacle course using cardboard and various objects. After building their course, they took turns flying a drone through the intricate setup, demonstrating both skill and collaboration. This hands-on project not only sparked their imaginations but also fostered a spirit of cooperation among peers. Great job, students!

STEM in Kindergarten

Kindergarten students using their hands and minds to accomplish STEM challenges. They use rods to make letters, pattern boards, and shapes to help with spatial awareness, color recognition, and hand-eye coordination. Students practice upper and lower case letters using plastic connecting shapes.
Pixel art challenge offers experience with math and coding problems. Creating bridges and towers builds teamworking skills.
Students develop critical thinking skills and improve their ability to solve problems through coding. Problem solving begins at a young age at the Springs!

4 Music Recorders

Becoming Black Belt Recorders

Students in 4th grade have started playing recorders. They are currently working on their very first song Hot Cross Buns. This song is the first of nine that is featured in their recorder karate book. The goal is for them all to reach black belt and become recorder experts. They track their progress on charts for everyone to see! By playing recorders, students learn how to perform as a group, read music, and practice their rhythms. High level engagement!

7 & 8 RTI Bridge PBL

Bridge Building PBL

Mrs. Knight's 7th & 8th RTI group began with a case study of the Minneapolis Bridge that failed in 2007.  They brainstorm reasons why bridges are successful or could fail.  In groups, students pick a bridge to complete research and create a slideshow. Next, students made scale drawings of their bridges using graph paper and built a model of their bridges.  The bridge models and slideshows were presented to a group of peers. Authentic engineering practices and problem solving!
