Message from Mrs. Krissi McInturff

Dear Sulphur Springs Community,

What a wonderful week we have had! On Tuesday, our school was recognized at ETSU for being a Resilient School of Distinction (Please see picture below!). On Thursday, we were visited by our wonderful WCDE school board, Mr. Boyd, Senator Rusty Crowe, and Representative Tim Hicks. Many students presented, shared, and discussed different ways they were learning and what they enjoyed about our school.

Looking Ahead:
Next week is just as exciting!

  • Family Involvement Night – Monday, September 29 from 6:00–7:30 p.m.

  • Faculty/Student Volleyball Game & Celebration – Thursday, October 2. We’ll celebrate both our TVAAS Level 5 score and our Resilient Schools Award.

  • Attendance Challenge – Winning classes will be announced Wednesday, October 1! Keep encouraging great attendance so your class can win those popsicles!

Important Reminder:
School will be closed Friday, October 3 – Wednesday, October 15.

3 DBHS Basketball Team Visit

Our 3rd graders had the unique opportunity to meet the Daniel Boone High School girls basketball team, coached by their very own teacher, Mrs. Good. This interaction serves as a powerful reminder of the positive influence that local role models can have on young students. Engaging with high school athletes not only inspires our children but also strengthens community bonds.

Electromagnetism Enhanced!

The 8th-grade students are exploring the fascinating world of electromagnetism and gaining hands-on experience by building electromagnets. They used the skills and knowledge to construct an electric motor using basic materials like batteries, wire coils, and magnets.

Despite initial challenges, their perseverance led to successful circuit tests! This approach not only enhances their understanding of electrical concepts but also boosts their confidence through practical application.

MindCave

Students studied the local folk hero Davy Crockett and learned what defines a tall tale. They then used paper and digital tools like Canva and Google Slides to create their own tall tale comics, featuring themselves as the main characters. This activity connected storytelling with technology and design, fostering skills in creativity, digital literacy, and communication—key components of STEAM education. Sharing their work with peers also supported collaboration and presentation skills.
